About Røros

Røros was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1980 for its distinctive character, shaped by 333 years of continuous mining activity on the Røros plateau. The Røros Copper Works was founded in 1644. Today, the municipality of Røros has a population of about 5,600. Including the surrounding municipalities of Holtålen, Os and Tolga, the total population of the region is about 11,60.

Weather
The typical inland climate of Røros brings some precipitation all year round. Temperatures can vary widely during the day, and nights can be frosty even in summer. Although it can still get very cold, winters have been somewhat milder in recent years and the record low of -50.4 degrees Celsius was set a long time ago. Winters are long, but then again, Røros is at its most beautiful when dressed in winter finery.
